I’ve only ever been to Hobart, but here’s my perspective. Rent and housing is much cheaper than the mainland. Summers are milder than the mainlan the highest recorded temperature in Hobart was about 42C, compared to its closest mainl.
In Tasmania you can live in the hills or by the water – or in the hills with a view of the water. Or smack bang in the middle of a city.

Everywhere wilderness-y you take the risk of bush fires. We get a very intense heat without the humidity of the mainland in summer.
Located around Emu Bay on Bass Strait, Burnie is a port city with a rich industrial history. Doesn’t sound appealing? No visit to Tasmania is complete without at least one stopover at a quintessentially Tasmanian town.
