If you are currently in the process of moving to Tasmania from interstate, you will be required to enter days of self-isolation in government-provided accommodation upon entry to Tasmania.
If you have already organised a place to live (either purchased a property or organised to rent a property) you will need to start living there once you’ve finished your day self-isolation period in government accommodation, and comply with the directions to remain in your primary residence. If you are yet to organise your ongoing living arrangements, you will need to seek other accommodation once you’ve finished your days of self-isolation in government provided accommodation. There is an exemption that allows people to stay in commercial accommodation if they need to temporarily live there if their primary residence is not available.
Once you have secured a new primary residence in Tasmania you will need to comply with the directions to remain in your primary residence. Effective immediately the Premier of Tasmania has directed Spirit of Tasmania to prioritise its bookings for returning Tasmanian residents, freight and those travellers who have met the Essential Traveller criteria and are able to travel to Tasmania All non-essential travellers, including Tasmanians, who arrive in Tasmania will be required to self-isolate for days. Non-Tasmanian travellers, who are not essential travellers, will need to have their exemption approved by DPIPWE prior to making any booking. Applications can be made on the DPIPWE website.
If you are not a Tasmanian resident or an Essential Traveller you should not make a new booking from Victoria to Tasmania at this stage. The Spirit of Tasmania is in the process of reviewi. Unless the FIFO worker is captured under the Essential Traveller classification, they will need to self-isolate in government provided accommodation for days. People who travel interstate for work but who ordinarily reside in Tasmania can apply for Essential Traveller status if they can provide evidence that the requirement to enter days of self-isolation in government provided accommodation upon entry to Tasmania would lead to an unusual, undeserved or disproportionate hardship. The vessel will then be directed as to the self-isolation requirements that will apply to those on board the vessel.
Tasmania Police will ensure compliance with the self-isolation measures, helping people to access support and follow up to ensure the process is adhered to. These requirements also apply to any Domestic Commercial Vessel (DCV) whose arrival into Tasmania does not occur through a regulated TasPorts port where submission of Vessel Movement Advice (VMA) is a requirement. Commercial fishers and recreational boaters do not need to self-isolate if they have not set foot interstate or overseas, and have not taken on crew from interstate and ov. Please ensure you are not carrying or importing any restricted items into Tasmania – including fruit and vegetables, seafoo some animal products, plant material, soil and seeds. If you are carrying these items you will need to dispose of them in the quarantine bins provided or declare them to the Biosecurity Officers on arrival.
