If you are passing through New Zealand as a transit passenger , you need to apply for a Transit Visa before you travel, unless you are travelling to Australia or are from a visa waiver country or a transit visa waiver country. Getting a Transit NZeTA for New Zealand is a straightforward process. Applicants must have the following at hand in order to apply for a Transit NZeTA: Simply follow the New Zealand eTA application instructions, fill in the required personal, passport, and travel information, answer a few health and security questions and carefully review the data to ensure it coincides exactly with the way it is printed on the traveller’s passport. Once the NZeTA application form has been complete the system will automatically determine that the citizen needs a Transit NZeTAand calculate the applicable fees for their situation.

This visa doesn’t allow you to stay in Australia longer. If you need to stay longer, you should apply for a different visa. If you are a New Zealander, citizen of a Pacific Island Forum country, Timor Leste citizen or resident of New Caledonia or French Polynesia transiting though Australia on your way to or from New Zealand or a Pacific Island Forum Country, you do notneed a transit exemption if you have booked a connecting flight to depart Australia within hours of your arriving flight. Due to domestic travel restrictions, your outbound connecting flight must be departing from the same airport in Australia as your arrival flight, unless an exemption has been granted.
If your connecting flight means you will spend longer than hours, you are not considered to be transiting Australia and will need to apply onlineto the Commissioner of the ABF for an exemption from the travel restrictions. If you cannot remain in the airport before your connecting flight departs, you will need a valid visa , or be eligible to TWOV, and you must follow the quarantine and isolation requirements in the state or territory that you have arrived in. State and territory authorities will consider exemptions to the mandatory day quarantine period on a case by case basis.

To transit New Zealand , you must : meet one of the categories or exceptions that mean you do not require an NZeTA or transit visa , or hold a NZeTA if you are allowed to transit on an NZeTA, or hold a transit visa if you are required to have a transit visa. The Australia visa for transit expires after days, so they will be required to apply for a new transit visa for Australia every time they enter the country for purposes of working on a ship.
